Amazon Affiliate Frequently Asked Questions:
How does the Amazon Affiliate program work?
Being an Amazon Affiliate simply means that the Hillsdale PTO advertises Amazon on our public website at www.hillsdalehuskies.com/amazon. When you click through the links on our webpage to access Amazon, we receive a commission on items you place in your cart and purchase within 24 hours. Just like any other website ad, you won’t notice anything different about Amazon after clicking through our link. You’ll have access to the same products, prices, and deals that you always do. But timing is important! You need to place items in your cart after clicking through our link, and then complete the purchase within 24 hours in order for Hillsdale to receive a commission.
Is this program the same as Amazon Smile? I already support another charity/organization.
This program is different than Amazon Smile! In fact, you can continue to support the organization of your choice through Amazon Smile AND support Hillsdale by using our affiliate links at the same time. You’ll be supporting TWO great causes at once. Our website at www.hillsdalehuskies.com/amazon includes a separate link to click if you use Amazon Smile. Just click that link each time you want to shop! (Note: Hillsdale is also available through Amazon Smile as The Hillsdale Parent Teacher organization, so if you don’t already support a Smile charity, feel free to add us and you’ll be providing EXTRA support! Just don’t forget to click through our links each time you shop. The commissions we receive through our affiliate ads are MUCH more profitable than Amazon Smile.)
Will Hillsdale receive information about my shopping habits?
No, it’s completely private. The Hillsdale PTO never receives information linking you to your purchases.
I’d love to help, but I use the Amazon App.
No problem! On most mobile devices, clicking through our affiliate links will automatically launch the Amazon App if you have it installed. Hillsdale will still get credit as long as you add items to your cart and complete your purchase within 24 hours after you clicked through our link.
Sounds great, but it’s a pain to remember to click through Hillsdale’s link. I’m busy!
We hear you! But trust us, it’s not hard once you get into the habit. Here are some tips to make it as easy and painless as possible to support our school:
- If you typically shop from your phone or mobile device, just leave a browser window open to www.hillsdalehuskies.com/amazon. It will always be there ready to go… clicking our link is easier than typing www.hillsdalehuskies.com/amazon!
- If you typically shop from your computer, add www.hillsadalehuskies.com/amazon as a bookmark or favorite.
How much money does the PTO earn by being an Amazon Affiliate?
Not as much as we could! We receive a 4%-10% commission on affiliate sales. If the average family spends $1000 on Amazon purchases per year and 200 Hillsdale families (or their extended families and friends) consistently participate, we could easily and painlessly earn over $10,000 per year in free dollars for our students, teachers, and school. Sadly, we don’t have enough participation to take advantage of this opportunity. The graph below shows our earnings for this school year so far. In an effort to keep you informed of how we’re doing, we will be posting monthly updates in the PTO Newsletter moving forward. Let’s see how much we can earn by remembering to click through www.hillsdalehuskies.com/amazon EVERY time we shop!
Why is it important to raise money for Hillsdale? Shouldn’t WCASD be able to cover everything our kids need?
The Hillsdale PTO provides nearly $30,000 of support annually to help keep our school and programs running, and that doesn’t even include special projects like the outdoor classroom or the library modernization project. The PTO funds things like school supplies, field trips, assemblies, special events, financial aid, teacher/classroom grants, playground equipment, and more. We’ll be working to send more information about where your PTO support dollars go, so stay tuned, or better yet, join us at a PTO meeting!
